When the Room Became a Destination

Restful Stays

After spending hours scouring the internet for the perfect minimoon destination, my husband and I settled on Vogue Hotel Montréal for one main reason: private in-room sauna. The idea of being able to order room service and enjoy a spa experience without ever leaving our room—especially after the whirlwind of wedding planning—was too hard to pass up. Spending Christmas in a European-feeling city without the hassle of traveling abroad only added to the appeal, making it feel both romantic and effortless.

We arrived late morning on Christmas Eve to a snowy, quiet Montréal. We booked our stay through the Amex Travel portal to take advantage of the Fine Hotels + Resort benefits with our Platinum card. While our Premium Spa Suite wasn’t ready for early check-in, the hotel offered us a standard room to hold our luggage and freshen up—a thoughtful gesture after an early start and lingering wedding exhaustion. Later that afternoon, we received a text letting us know our spa suite was ready.

The Premium Spa Suite is a spacious layout with a separate living room and bedroom. Soft velvet seating and dim lighting made the living area an inviting place to settle in with a movie and room service. The bedroom featured a plush king-sized bed, a TV, and fully stocked a minibar with local treats. But the real star of the suite is the bathroom.

The bathroom is fitted with a jetted tub for two, a separate shower, and private dry Finnish sauna that comfortably fits two. Having a true spa experience without leaving the room felt like a rare luxury—and one that ended up defining out stay in ways we didn’t expect.

Shortly after arriving, my husband came down with a cold, and our plans shifted. Instead of feeling like we were missing out, the suite became a quiet refuge. A discreetly stocked medicine kit in the room meant we didn’t need to venture out for essentials, and there was no pressure to do anything other than rest.  What could have felt like a setback instead reinforced how perfectly suited this room was for exactly what we needed.

Using the sauna was simple, with the system heating up quickly to our desired temperature. The bathroom was well stocked with towels for both sauna and water therapies, and the sauna included a bucket and ladle to drizzle water over the stones to create humidity for deeper sweating. Having our own private sauna meant we could chat freely, stretch out comfortably, or sit in silence without worrying about others—something we especially appreciated since most U.S. spas aren’t co-ed. A jar of bath salts for the jetted tub was a thoughtful finishing touch.

While we did venture out briefly to see Christmas markets and explore the city, we spent most of our time in the suite enjoying the sauna, room service, and the comfort of doing very little. Between work burnout and wedding fatigue, slowing down felt necessary rather than indulgent. Blackout curtains made daytime naps effortless, the always-stocked minibar encouraged lazy snacking, the jetted tub soothed tired muscles, and the living room became our cozy movie-watching nook. We dined out a couple of times, but the room service menu was expansive and satisfying enough that we were happy to stay in.

Looking back, our minimoon wasn’t about how much we did—it was about how deeply we rested. And for that, the Premium Spa Suite at Vogue Hotel Montréal was exactly what we needed.
